It will most likely come as no shock to you that obesity levels have sky rocketed in recent years. The main behind this is due to changing attitudes towards food and exercise. After all, many people would rather be sat in front of a television eating a ‘ready meal’ as opposed to heading outside, playing some sports and then having a nice home cooked meal. The problem is, this is is a completely unhealthy lifestyle, and if something is not done about it soon then the life expectancy for people will fall.
So, What causes obesity?
Well, unless a person is suffering from a particular condition then the main reason is due to poor eating and exercising habits. This means stuffing your face with all sorts of fats and sugars, and then of course not putting in the effort to start burning off this weight. It is only logical that you need to burn off the calories if you are going to consume them. If you don’t, this is just going to lead to obesity.
What is the body mass index (BMI)?
The main determinant in whether somebody is obese or not is known as the Body Mass Index. You most likely will see this referred as BMI from time to time. This measurement takes a little look at the weight of a person as well as their height. By calculating these two a number will be reached, which is known as the BMI. Being obese would mean a BMI over 30. There are plenty of calculators online which will allow you to calculate your BMI yourself.
What role does physical activity have in obesity?
Well, to put in the simplest way, if you don’t exercise then there is a chance that you are going to put on weight, ultimately leading to obesity. However, if you do exercise then you will be burning off the calories that you consume, which will ultimately allow you to get below the ‘obese’ BMI number. Although of course you will need to eat well in order to ensure you lose weight, exercise won’t do it alone, although to be fair this is where most people fail.
What are the best exercises to lose weight at home?
Well, anything that you want to be honest. Ideally you will want to opt for cardiovascular activities such as cycling, running or walking, these will burn off the most amount of weight if you put in at least thirty minutes a day. If you can’t break away from your home then perhaps a bit of yoga, dance or even sit ups. In fact, even running up and down the stairs in your home could burn off weight if you know what you are doing. I think the key is to ensure that you remain active within your household, do ass much as possible instead of lazing about watching TV or playing video games. In my opinion, this is the only way you will lose weight.
I promise you, if you start to put in the effort today, you will lose weight, and it needn’t take too long. Just start sooner rather than later if you want to feel the benefits!
